J/P is finally selling this rose again. It is a really good mauve, at least for the PNW, where most mauves are ARF ARF ARF -- barf.

Interesting! How are it's seedlings?

I used it the 2nd year I had it. I trialed a few hips to see how they germinated, and then I had to move for career reasons, so I left it behind. That is why I tracked it down again :] So, long story short -- too few seedlings to evaluated. But it germinates, so there's that.

I did germinate some a few years ago when used as the pollen source, and mildew was an issue in germinations. The other parent has to be able to pass on above average mildew resistance for a cross with Sweetness to be viable.

This is to be expected from most mauves, to be honest. But, yeah, works as pollen. I wouldn't recommend it for seed because there are better options. It sets okay and germinates a little, but nothing like, for example, Playboy.

Photo is mirrored and at a different scale. http://www.jacksonandperkins.com/sweetness-grandiflora-rose/p/34402/

But it's otherwise identical.

That is proof enough, thank you! We merged the two roses. There are a couple more which I believe are synonyms, e.g. 'Gold Leaf', Golden Flash', 'Sweet Marmalade', 'Vive les Vacances!', 'Yonina', etc.

I think my 'Sweetness' has hit its preferred size, for the second year in a row the top blossoms are at 15 feet, around 3 meters, and she spreads to about 25 feet or 8 meters wide.

Extremely reliable producer of very fragrant blooms.
