Musk Roses.-- The Musk Rose stands pretty well here, in a warm, dry situation, but, in wet ground, rather tender. In the latitude of Long Island, Mr. Parsons says it is quite hardy, having a plant of the old White Musk, that has braved the severity of more than twenty winters, in his grounds. "It has already, this season, made shoots of more than six feet; and in our Southern States more than double the growth would probably be attained." It produces its flowers in large clusters. We are familiar with the old white cluster, which commences flowering late, and continues till cold weather. Other fine varieties are, Eponine, and Princess of Nassau.

Translation:
Laffay in Auteuil had already achieved much more important results at that time....The attempt to add a new class to the kingdom of ever-blooming roses, had given existence to Muscate à coeur jaune and Princesse de Nassau, had they, if protected against the sun, been for some hours yellow.

MUSK ROSES.
The Musk Rose grows naturally in Persia and other Eastern countries, where it attains the height of a small tree, and is doubtless the rose which has been celebrated by eastern poets. It is also found in India, where it is probably the species used for making attar. In this latitude it is quite hardy, and we have a plant of the old White Musk in our grounds, that has braved the severity of more than twenty winters. It has already, this season, made shoots of more than six feet, and in our Southern States more than double the growth would probably be attained. The blossoms appear in clusters, and commencing later than any other rose, continue abundant throughout the season. The Old White Cluster has been widely distributed throughout the country, and is deservedly a favorite. The two best varieties, however, are the following:
...Princess of Nassau is a luxuriant-growing and very fragrant variety, and would make a good pillar rose. It blooms in large clusters of cupped flowers, changing from yellow to cream-color as they open.
