p83.  S. B. Watkins.  The Fragrance of the Rose.
The Radiance Family has always charmed by the beauty of its perfume.

p116.  Mr. R. H. Russell, Head Gardener, Parramatta Mental Hospital.
In spite of all the new varieties of Roses which come along from time to time, I still think that Radiance and its sisters are the best bedding Roses. I have over fifteen hundred Radiance, Red Radiance, and Mrs. C. J. Bell in seven beds, and they are always in flower— and plenty of them. In spite of the hundreds of other Roses which I have, I would have a lean time if it wasn't for the Radiance family.

Some Roses which one would take by appearance to be good seed bearers, in my experience, bear no seed...The late Dr. Nicholas said he worked for years and failed to improve Radiance. From Radiance I have got a few seeds, two weakly plants and no blooms.

As one would expect, the older and fuller type of Rose pre-dominates, and, as in Sydney, the Radiance Roses, red and pink, are seen everywhere.

R. californica although it proved almost impossible for budding purposes, I found it very easy to graft. Root-grafts were very successful if planted deep enough to discourage sucker growth. Roses like 'La France', 'Mme. Butterfly', and 'Radiance' did wonderfully well on it.

Radiance: silvery pink on the inside of the petals, with a deeper pink reverse, one of the best decorative roses and richly perfumed.
