I have high hopes for this one, as its parent "Crepuscule" is one of my all-time faves and does well in my garden. So far, it's not climbing much, and the flowers, though pretty, are much smaller than I'd imagine. This is only Mel's second year from an own-root cutting, though.

This sounds nuts, but five years later, Mel is finally starting to climb, and bloom. And it smells nice. Sometimes, it's worth the wait ...

Does anyone grow this is Zone 6a?

Also, how thorny?

Thank you!

It's pretty thorny...nothing crazy, but quite a few sharp little thorns.

Heat tolerance is amazing. Currently in zone 10b/11...It's 110 degrees fehrenheit outside right now. No sun burn, or signs of heat stress. It's currently in a pot as it's still small, and I do water it every other day. But compared to most roses which definitely need to be shaded and watered twice daily at this time of year, Mel's Heritage is simply amazing.

Do any European nurseries carry this rose, or other Paul Barden ones? If so, please let me know!
