Beautiful single Red Rose with a pleasing clove fragrance. Grows as a small bushy shrub. Blooms regularly if dead-headed. An underrated Austin.
The Heritage of The Rose. Austin 1988. States this Rose’s parentage to be ‘Parade x An English Rose’ as all seed parents in Austin’s books come first it’s ’Parade x Seedling’.

Does 'Red Coat' have nearly-full-sized blooms in hot weather?? Resistance to crisping?
Thanks, Nate

Singularly Beautiful Roses
I notice that Austin and Clair Martin say that Red Coat is a cross between Gene Boerner's Parade and an English rose. (Old Roses and English Roses, p. 174, and 100 English Roses for the American Garden, p. 184) Following what is written in Modern Roses 9 & 10, HMF states that its parents are a seedling and Golden Showers. Can someone offer some insight into the discrepancy? It appears to be a MR error.
