"... and Reichpraesident von Hindenburg (which needs a simpler name if it's ever to be popular). I love it for its reaching damask fragrance and enormous pink blooms with a darker reverse." (Helen Van Pelt Wilson's Own Garden and Landscape Book, Doubleday: 1973, p.128.)

[On the strength of those three words -- 'reaching damask fragrance' -- I once went to the trouble of importing this rose from France. I ended up keeping the plant for a single season, during which the scent was nothing to write home about and the blooms had the distinction of being among the least good-looking I have ever seen on a rose].

As a native German speaker, I'd just like to correct the spelling of this rose named after a wellknown German historical figure. Hindenburg was the second president of the Weimar Republic, and Hitler would become his chancellor in 1933. Being a weak and extremely conservative president, Hindenburg contributed to the fall of the democratic Weimar Republic and to the rise of Hitler. Long story short, his last name is spelled Hindenburg. So it's Reichspraesident von Hindenburg.

What is the rose President Roosevelt wore as a boutineer every day. It is a beautiful bud and looks like a cabbager rose when fully open. It is white and I lost the name. Could it be clotilde soupert?

Duchesse de Brabant is the tea rose you are thinking of, Teddy was long gone before this rose was introduced.
