'Reine des Centfeuilles'. Centifolia, Origin: France, 1824. Flower size 7cm (2.8in). Scent: medium and sweet. Flowering: once only. Height: 1.75m (5.7ft). Spread: 1.5m (4.9ft). Zone 5. This Queen of the Centifolias is of unknown hybrid origin, lumped with the Centifolia roses because of its name. It is, however, a rose of great beauty, whose single flowering lasts for a long time. The flowers are rich mid-pink with darker backs to the petals. They are cup-shaped, and exceptionally full of petals, folded and pleated into a loose rosette, sometimes with a button eye. They usually come in clusters (typically of 3-7 on slightly weak stems, so that they hang sideways a little and sway in the wind. The plant has small, dark smooth leaves and a lot of prickles.

Rose Nouvelle Gagnée This rose is not in the Napoleonshöhe nursery catalogue 1811, but it was sold by Schelhase as R. provincialis, a newly grown rose. Gravereaux listed it as a gallica present in Malmaison. It is not found in L'Haÿ-les-Roses, so it had probably already been lost at the time of Gravereaux.

p64 'Reine des Centfeuilles' (1824). An unusual and beautiful member of the family. A very free-flowering variety of deep pink, the flowers looking as if they have been trimmed flat across the top. A rather open plant, will grow to 1.5 metres and when the flowers are open they are beautifully quartered with a button eye.
