Origin:
Bred by Kelway (and Son) (United Kingdom, before 1902).
Class:
Hybrid lactiflora.  
Bloom:
Carmine-red or crimson, yellow center.  None to mild fragrance.  Single, Japanese (anemone, imperial) bloom form.  Midseason.  
Habit:

Height: up to 32" (up to 80cm).  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).

Notes:
Kelway & Son sent at least two similar Japanese peonies to US customers as 'King of England'; these were distinguished as the red-stemmed 'King of England' and the green-stemmed one.

To minimize confusion, US growers called the red-stemmed variety, 'Edward VII', and this explains why Kelway & Son didn't list a lactiflora peony called 'Edward VII' in their catalogues, but US references attribute it to Kelway, if they attribute it to anyone. See REFERENCES.

To be clear, Kelway did introduce a peony named 'Edward VII', but it was a tree peony.
