The colors of this rose, how they change is a marvel. Many of the old tea roses of the 19th century have petals that are more translucent. This allows for a more delicate coloration of the opening bud, a more etherial quality to the flower. 2/7/'15

“Almerta Mrs. Heggie’s Red Tea”. Start of the season. South Australia, zone 9b. In transition phase from pale to red. Many blooms have paler guard petals, not particularly attractive. Fortunately it doesn't look like this for long.
