Russet Miniature. Registration name: JALwood Exhibition name: Sandalwood
Bloom:
Russet, darker veining. Mild, spice fragrance. Average diameter 2". Medium to large, full (26-40 petals), exhibition, high-centered, urn-shaped bloom form. Moderate, blooms in flushes throughout the season. Medium, pointed, ovoid buds.
Habit:
Medium, bushy, compact. Medium, glossy, dark green foliage.
Height: 1' to 14" (30 to 35cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 8a through 9b. Can be used for container rose, exhibition or garden. Benefits from winter protection in colder climates. plant in partial shade for best color. prefers cool sites.. prefers dry climates. Disease susceptibility: susceptible to disease. Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.
Breeder's notes:
One of the most popular roses I have bred. There is simply nothing else like it in the rose world. Extremely rare colour. I have yet to see another rose even close to it - flowers can have hints of mauve. Flower and colour is truly unique and when at its best, simply stunning!
It's also prone to most diseases, hates a cold winter, hates the wet, hates the heat and will up and die on you if you look at it the wrong way. If you enjoy a project plant it will reward you over and over. Does well in greenhouse settings and mild dry climates. I almost tossed this seedling out, but my brother said people will go crazy over it. So far it's been my best selling miniature rose and one that people never forget!
