Bred by Dr. Walter Van Fleet (United States, before 1922).
Introduced in United States by American Rose Society in 1926 as 'Sarah Van Fleet'.
Introduced in France by Grandes Roseraies du Val de la Loire in 1928 as 'Sarah Van Fleet'.
Class:
Hybrid Rugosa, Shrub.  
Bloom:
Rose-pink, ages to lighter .  Moderate, old rose fragrance.  20 to 30 petals.  Medium to large, double (17-25 petals), borne mostly solitary, in small clusters, cupped-to-flat, open bloom form.  Occasional repeat later in the season.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles, dense, spreading.  Wrinkled (rugose) foliage.  

Height: 5' to 8' (150 to 245cm).  Width: 4' to 6' (120 to 185cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Hardy.  Disease susceptibility: very disease resistant, susceptible to rust .
