American Gardening, Vol. XIV, No. 2, (February, 1893) p. 80
Mrs. W. C. Whitney, raised by Mr. John N. May,...is a new American seedling from Souvenir d'un Ami (tea) and the famous American Beauty (remontant). It is an exceedingly fine flower; a deep clear pink with exquisite fragrance.

Thanks Nastarana. That 1893 parentage is a reversal of what is quoted in other references. I note that our main page shows a seed parent of Mme. Hippolyte Jamain. Does anyone know where that came from?

Sunset Seed & Plant Co. (Sherwood Hall Nursery Co.) 1895, p. 61 Mrs. W. C. Whitney. A magnificent new hybrid tea rose. The flowers are clear, deep pink in color, and of delicious fragrance; large, pointed buds and a very free bloomer.
