On your website the Soaring Flight Rose is listed for zones 6b - 9b. The supplier I'm considering purchasing from lists this rose for zones 5-9. I'm in zone 5 and wonder if this rose would do well on an east facing wall in Colorado? Please help! Thanks for any suggestions.

I am thinking about ordering "Soaring Flight" to wrap in a spiral around a corner pillar of my wrap-around porch. However, I have read that the canes of Soaring Flight are rather stiff. Does anyone have an opinion about whether this rose is pliable enough for this? Also, if it grows tall enough I would like it to arch gracefully at the porch's roof. The supplier says that it can grow as tall as 14 ft. I live in Zone 6, bordering Zone 5 (but sunny, south-facing and protected fron the north by our house.) Anyone in our zone or colder have experience with this rose (height, how prolific it blooms, etc?) Also, does the color of this rose tend to bleach out with strong sunlight? I have planted "The Impressionist" on another pillar. It is beautiful (orangy pink/gold) but by the second day of bloom the color has bleached to blush/ white, and after the third day the petals fall off. I will still keep this rose, but I would like another rose with complementary colors in a slightly deeper hue (pink/yellow/orange/salmon) and I thought "soaring flight" might be a good companion to "The Impressionist." Any thoughts on this or suggesions for other moderate/tall climbers (12 to 20 feet) of this coloration? I would like very healthy foliage that is attactive even when there are no blooms. Thank you
Cynthia

Hello Lizzie:How do you think Soaring Flight would perform as a rambler in southern Mendocino county near the coast (5 miles south of Pt. Arena)?  Climate conditions are characterized by humidity, wind, salt air, and lack of warmth (but also not extreme cold).  I can count on 6-8 hours of sun daily, but temps are typically only in the 60's.Thanks for your input.Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,:  My experience with SF is in the CA East Bay clime.  This (own-root variety) rose has been one of the most disease resistant, hardy, vigorous and most prolific bloomers.  The blooms are lovely  and it receives minimal attention and no spraying whatsoever. I have it on an east facing fence so it does get a little less sun than some others  and seems not to mind at all.   It has been growing to 15 ft tall and about 8-ft wide at the top and 6 ft wide at  measured at 4-5ft  off the ground. at around 4 years old.   My only problem is I don't have room for another one!   Best of luck, Lizzie

Moderate growth in the Northeast (5-7'). Good rebloom, slight fragrance, rather enchanting color. In coastal parts of this Zone (6b) it can be prone to various leaf-spot diseases, sometimes seriously.
