I've raised enough seedlings to know that's definitely not a Red Devil product, but it does have the glandular sepals like many an Allgold and Circus-type progeny.

My feeling too. The parentage needs changing from 'Red Devil' to 'Royal Gold'. Thank you Michael.
Interestingly, in a Dec 28, 2004 letter to James Young (The Joy of Roses) I said: "Eliza Dorothy – p190. This is an Australian rose and in years to come, we may need to know just what this rose looked like. From this pix, all we will know is that it had a slightly prickly pedicel." I've uploaded James' photo and know he would not have minded.

Re the quoted pollen parentage of 'Eliza Dorothy'. Two separate pollen parents are quoted in the references. Surely for such a yellow rose, the correct one must be 'Royal Gold', and not the red 'Red Devil'.

Patricia, with the greatest respect, colour is a very variable attribute. It is very rarely possible to relate colour of an offspring to a parent. Colour is probably the least reliable genetic factor of what may be dominant or recessive in a seedling when seeking to relate to parentage. We may want it to be so. That does not necessarily make it so.

Thank you Laurie. Do you know which is the correct pollen parent? Did Mr. Allender keep records which his family may still have?
