Bloom:
Light pink, green center. Average diameter 1.5". Small, full (26-40 petals), button-eye, rosette, scalloped bloom form. Once-blooming spring or summer. Glandular sepals buds.
Habit:
Small, wavy or ruffled foliage. 5 leaflets.

Notes:
The Astrolabe was a French ship that set sail in 1826, under the command of Jules Dumont d'Urville, for a circumnavigation of the globe that would take almost 3 years. The ship was, in turn, named for a navigational device that preceded the sextant.
From 1837 to 1840, d'Urville sailed again on the Astrolabe to explore the Antarctic regions.
From 1822-1825, the same ship had earlier circumnavigated the globe under a different name, the Coquille, and under a different commander, Louis-Isidore Duperrey, seconded by d'Urville.
