"Stockport Yellow" rose Reviews & Comments

This rose was found in arid zone 9b, where its flower production is very high (also in my garden). Not sure if it's Tea or early HT. My plant is spreading, fairly low-growing so far. Very difficult to strike from cuttings. Cf painting of Georges Schwartz (but Stockport Yellow isn't strongly fragrant). McGredy's Yellow has been suggested (among others) but I don't think the Stockport Yellow is high-centred enough.

At the moment, Helpmefind has this bloom as Light Yellow. From past pictures I have seen, I would describe it as deep yellow.
In Lina Schmidt-Michel's painting of 'Georges Schwartz', the sepals extend well above the buds. I am not seeing that feature in "Stockport Yellow" buds, but it does seem to have the strong colour of 'Georges Schwartz'. (We need more pictures of 'Georges Schwartz'.)
Pat - are you still getting that "rich freesia perfume" from "Stockport Yellow" which you mentioned in 2003? Reading old correspondence, I see this foundling has some thorns down below, and once Pat mentioned "little bud-like growths" and "jointed growths near the flowering stem".

Having a sniff the other day I got a citrusy floral scent. This rose can be dark yellow at one flowering period or it can be a two tone yellow at others and it can even be a light yellow. The season, soil and weather seems to effect the colouring. The dark pink on the guard petals can also be more pronounced at times.

Today I counted 34 petals and 7 petaloids, with a dark pink flush on the guard petals (mid-autumn). Smells like a Tea to me; I don't think I have the "nose".
