Rolando Zandri informs me that in Catalogue of Roseto di Roma 1973 is listed Radiosa by Aicardi which was presented in 1956 to the International Rose Trials of Rome. However the description ( bright salmon) and the lineage (M.me Pierre Sam du Pont X J. C. Thorntorn) reported there clearly points to the fact that Aicardi actually presented the rose Radiosa obtained by Stazione Sperimentale di Sanremo. See http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.67418 . Could you please merge the two roses? Thank you
PS. Other two facts support the idea that there is only one Radiosa and that it was bred by Stazione Sperimentale di Sanremo. 1) The pollen donor ( J.C. Thornton) was frequently utilized by SSS and Clotaria, Beatrice, Maddalena, Velluto are step sisters of Radiosa; by contrast Aicardi never used that rose. 2) At the International rose trials of Rome in 1956 Fratelli Giacomasso presented Aicardi’s roses (Primula, Gloriosa, Perla Preziosa e Diva, the last two never heard before …) whereas Aicardi presented Radiosa. This information was from Rolando Zandri.

Hello Ca Berta, My apologies for the delay. (One month into autumn and I am still hand-watering here....) Can you add that 1973 reference, and its author please. Is it possible the author was confusing Aicardi's rose which had no parentage listed, with San Remo's rose which did list a parentage. You have a very good argument in 1) for the case that 'Radiosa' was in fact a San Remo rose, but I thought I would double check before merging and deleting the Aicardi listing. Patricia

The 1973 catalogue of Roseto di Roma was filled in by Rolando Zandri who worked with Mr. Vallicola Curatore del Roseto and who became, himself, Curatore up to 1987. He used the available documents (not many and rather scattered) from Rome international trials. A mistake might have been made somewhere .... the most likely is "writing" Aicardi as breeder of this rose (Aicardi roses were presented by Fr.lli Giacomasso that year) in the catalogue. Later Zandri gave to Prof Fineschi, for his collection, the cuttings of the roses in Roseto of Rome and, as a consequence, the Cavriglia's label says "by Domenico Aicardi".
We are not in a hurry and I will certainly try to collect further informations on this issue. Here almost no snow this year and incredibly mild temperatures .... Have a good day. Bruna
PS Aicardi was a clever gentleman .. he would have never named a rose Radiosa only a few years after the publication of a technical report on a rose bearing the same name bred by the "next door" Stazione Sperimentale di Sanremo....
