H. M. Ibell, Impressions of a New Zealander visiting Australia. ….While with Mr. Clark I visited the gardens of …… and Mr. and Mrs. H. Dettmann, Kyneton, whose large Rose garden contained many glorious blooms of ….. Mr. Dettmann also had a bed of Mr. Clark’s unnamed seedlings which are being closely watched for any likely good ones.

Alister Clark. Almost in the same district we have Mr. U. L. Daly, at Gisborne, with a garden full of the best of the roses, grown splendidly. Mr. Hugh Dettmann, at Kyneton, another twenty miles along the road to Bendigo, seems to be able to grow anything he wants, and his large bushes of Roses that I find difficulty in growing are five feet high at least. In Mr. Dettmann, we have a real green-fingered, generous flower-lover, who is, like Mr. Daly, one of the coming raisers of high class daffodils from seed.

An Extraordinary Season. - I have found 'Souv. de Gustave Prat' a good seed parent, although not a good flower here, but Pernet Ducher would not have issued it unless it had been good in France, and so we may safely work on roses sent out by this great judge; even if the flowers are not perfect, we know they have the best blood in them
