Disease susceptibility: disease resistant, blackspot resistant, very mildew resistant. Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.
Breeder's notes:
One of my favorite seedlings that I have grown and one that probably could be introduced into commerce as the color is pleasing to most people and it is highly consistent in bloom production, plant shape, and in health.
A very nice combination of both its parents from the color to the size of its bloom clusters. An individual branch produces an entire bouquet. The shape of an individual bloom is very nice and the scent moderate but can at times be strong.
This seedling has survived several takeovers by tall weeds (there is a Canadian thistle infestation going on right now in my yard) but each time I find the time to get out there and weed the seedling bed, there this one is growing nicely and usually blooming away as if the weeds weren't there at all.
Hardly any prickles at all (another trait from the pollen parent) but they are on the moderately-large size - easy to snap off. Excellent branching which give it a very desirable rounded bush appearance.
Produces a few open-pollinated hips but not many controlled crossed hips. Better suited as a pollen parent and is used consistently in my breeding program.
Overall it is healthy with a good degree of blackspot resistance and even in a year where everything seemed to get mildew, this one did not have it. This could be the start of a decently hardy and healthy purple line of roses.
Just a lovely overall rose.
