Birdie Blye (1904), a China, is wonderfully dependable. Great clusters of small, fat buds open to 2-inch, very double, deep-pink flowers with a small lavender cast; each petal is curled precisely back. It is for all who like Hermosa, with blooms like those used in garlands on little girls' spring straw hats. Birdie Blye's flowers are a bit larger and of deeper color, and it is truly everblooming. The vigorous plants grow to 6 to 7 feet and are good for fence or low trellis. It is strongly FRAGRANT.

Returning to the pink group I must raise my voice for Birdie Blye, because it does keeping blooming, even thought sometimes it is magenta-blooming. We are mixed as to whether what we call Commandant L. Bartre ought not to be called Hofgärtner Kalb. It is no more beautiful in color than Birdie Blye, but it does have the most exquisite perfume.

Hardy Climbing Roses
Birdie Blye. Hybrid Multiflora. (Dr. W. Van Fleet, 1904.) Pink, fragrant flowers of fair form, produced in diffuse clusters. A fairly large bush, quite hardy, and ever-blooming.
With this Rose the late Dr. Van Fleet almost succeeded in producing an everblooming Hardy Climbing Rose. It grows 4 to 5 feet high and is really not a climber but a vigorous bush Rose of the Gruss an Teplitz type.
