The "Admiral Dewey" Rose.
THIS IS WITHOUT QUESTION THE MOST WONDERFUL ROSE OF THE CENTURY.
IT has been deplored among Florists and Rose growers in years past that there was a scarcity of real good, all round red Roses. Any other color in Roses there was a number of choice varieties to select from; not so with red roses and the aim and attention of all hybridizers of roses has been to produce- the ideal Red Rose, one that was a good grower, one that was hardy, one that was an ever-bloomer and that combined beauty of bud and flower with sweet fragrance. We are glad to announce to our patrons and friends that the ADMIRAL DEWEY ROSE combines all these good qualities and meets every requirement of a first-class Rose.
Hybrid Tea— The Admiral Dewey Rose belongs to the hybrid tea section of the Rose family. It is a cross between a hybrid remontant and a tea rose, and has had transmitted to it by this union, the vigorous growth and hardy constitution of the hybrid remontant, while it retains the free blooming qualities, the refined and chaste shape, and fragrance of the Tea Rose.
Hardiness— It is the hardiest of all the hybrid teas, even hardier than the old favorite La France, which has stood twenty degrees below zero weather in Ohio with impunity. Therefore, it can be planted out safely in any latitude where any rose of any class will thrive, with the assurance that it will not winter-kill.
A Good Rose to Bloom— It is in every sense an ever-blooming Rose, indeed its only fault, if fault it is, lies in the fact that in its great freedom of blooming it in a measure retards its growth, every branch and shoot is covered with a magnificent bud or flower. It blooms when only a few inches high and keeps this up continuously without intermission. Visitors have been startled on entering our green house where this rose was planted, exclaiming 'O ! how beautifull' 'What lovely Rose is this?" "Can this be a Rose?" There is no Rose we know of that is so free and persistent a bloomer as the ADMIRAL DEWEY ROSE. It is equally good in pots in the house during winter, or planted out of doors in the garden in summer._ You are always assured of a perfect mass of the richest red colored Roses. 
Size and Shape of Bud and Flower— The bud and open flower of the ADMIRAL DEWEY ROSE are certainly the acme of perfection ; the bud is fully 2½ to 3 inches in length, of lovely pointed shape, opening into a huge, handsome flower, 5 to 6 inches in diameter. There is nothing among Roses that is more beautiful. It fairly entrances the beholder with its exquisite beauty.
Color, Velvet Crimson.— The Admiral Dewey Rose in color is a velvety crimson of the richest shade, with us it has not shown the slightest inclination to a purple or violet caste, but has always retained the same deep rich bright velvety crimson color, the color that is so much admired in Roses. It is very bright and at the same time very rich. No Rose extant will by comparison dim its lustre.
Fragrance, The Sweetest of all Roses.— Among its other good qualities, the Admiral Dewey Rose is the sweetest of all Roses, its fragrance is not only lasting but deep and penetrating. Its fragrance is certainly charming.
A Happy Thought.— Our friends who have seen the Rose growing compliment us on our having named this wonderful Rose, ADMIRAL DEWEY, they say it was a "happy thought" to name this Rose in honor of our greatest Naval Hero.
CAUTION.— We purchased the entire stock of this valuable Rose from the introducer, we will not offer it for sale to the trade or to dealers this year, as we paid an enormous price for it, and as our stock is comparatively limited, it would not justify us to offer it at wholesale this year. We have made arrangements with the Great Western Plant Co. and Miss Ella V. Baines to aid us in disseminating the Admiral Dewey Rose, with these exceptions no firm will offer this Rose this year, it cannot be purchased from any. one, except the two firms we name and ourselves. You certainly want the genuine Admiral Dewey Rose. Then send to headquarters for it.
