I love this photo. The rose looks as if it's leaping for fun and laughing. Wish I were there!

Right now, it will be very cold in that location and the bush will be laden with crimson heps. Sorry, too far from home to drive up specially for a photograph!

I'd love to be there in any season. Last time I was there it was late summer and fairly nippy. I will not disclose the year lest the information prove incriminating :)

I saw a threatening Scorpion in its form as I wrote in an older reaction.

Hmm. This might support a Rorschach Inversion Theory. A useful rose... why not also r.canina in Voight-Kampf testing: "The dog rose has escaped cultivation. It's suckering along the roadside in the hot sun, but you're not watering it. Why is that, Leon?"

Because, like the sweetbriar, it's a declared weed this side of the border... Which is why council workers spray every roadside rose.

Leon would not be pleased to hear that. After blasting his way out of the testing room he would have to move to New Zealand, whose National Pest Plant Accord does not list r.canina.

I've been reading that NZ officially doesn't use the term 'noxious weed' anymore, which is quite an enlightened step even if the physical work of clearing them [unwanted plants] would tempt a saint to superlatives of condemnation.

The roses in my garden are always ready to sting.... and they don't even look like scorpions!
