Your frontyard is looking good and packed with roses! Red leafed plums can produce edible fruits! Some are very good, other just little tasteless "waterbags".

It's probably like 35 years old (as the house) and doesn't seem to produce anything except red leaves and - hopefully - a decent support for a vigorous rambler!

What about flowers in spring?

They're dark pink, nearly invisible on the foliage ... hence I've also never been able to take a decent picture. Here is one of the Forsythia though!

That's a special red-leafed plum, for the most of them have light pink flowers. A nice Fosythia busch that is. most of the people prune them too hard!

It gets very little pruning; just shortening branches that get in the way. Some of our neighbours have forsythias in formal hedges; these hardly blossom at all. Especially since they prune them in late winter, cutting away, I think, all the wood that would otherwise blossom in spring.

Yup, pruning well, is a lot about timing!... And noticing the effect it had, to learn from the experience!
