This is the result of my aim to get something nice out of 'Mutabilis' before yet another plant of it dwindles away to nothing (I love 'Mutabilis' but sadly it doesn't do well in my area). 'Simon Robinson' x 'Mutabilis' seeds are in the fridge atm and - if 'Mutabilis' holds on a bit longer - I'll put its pollen onto 'Pierre Gagnaire' come Spring. Every year I put 'Mutabilis' pollen onto just one rose that does well for me and then I hope for the best! LOL

How disappointing Mutabilis doesn't do well for you. Here, it is a weed! I raised a seedling from Marie Pavie X Mutabilis and have self seedlings of it from last year to see what to expect from it. The original is pink and white. The selfs of the seedling are solid pink and solid red with really nice foliage. Good luck with being able to keep it limping along until the next round of crosses! I look forward to seeing what you can coax from it.

We are planning to move further out west in a few years and I expect 'Mutabilis' will enjoy it out there much more (not so wet & cold during Winter). Hopefully I'll get to grow a huge hedge of it (mixed in with 'Beauty of Glenhurst') and I'll be happy if it grows like a weed; I mean it is just so beautiful isn't it?
Your seedlings involving 'Mutabilis' sound great Kim. I often admire all of the 'Mutabilis' seedlings - from both seed & pollen - that are on HMF. I have 2 other 'Lavender Dream' x 'Mutabilis' seedlings that are pretty good too. One is double and has the same colour shift as 'Mutabilis' itself & the other is single yellow; both these seedlings are small & bushy unlike the seedling I chose to show on here. 'Mutabilis' is definitely a rose worth using in crosses! :-)

Yes, it is, Damian! I particularly love the sweet, peppery scent of the sepals, ovaries and peduncles. It scents my hand when I groom the plant and often carries on warmer, moister air. I think your idea for the hedge sounds wonderful. Thank you. I like the seedlings Mutabilis is providing, too. As soon as I see how they are going to perform as they mature, I'll put them up here.

I look forward to seeing your seedlings Kim & will keep an eye out for them. I often look through your seedlings for inspiration & tbh my 'Eyes for You' x 'Blue for You' seedling only exists because of something you said somewhere someplace awhile back. I hope that oneday I can inspire people like you do. Until next we chat - and I hope it is soon - take care & all the best to you!

Thank you, Damian! "Enabling" others who share your passions is one of the more satisfying, gratifying pursuits you can engage in, isn't it? No one person can explore every direction any plant can be taken. Being permitted to enjoy someone else's vision and creativity, watching the directions they take, even using some of the same roses you're working with, is fascinating! As has been written, we all "stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before". Who knows what discoveries, break throughs the next cross might lead to? Good luck and all the best back to you!
