13 December 2013 BETTER TO HAVE LOVED AND LOST THAN NEVER TO HAVE LOVED AT ALL, THEY SAY. True, actually. That doesn't mean that to have lost is acceptable, though. The saddest losses were the delicate little katydids, coaxed over decades out of the nearby gully with the offer of lush habitat. And the green geckoes. All the worms and other small creatures. Mangled, pulped. I hope the new residents will have nightmares living on all that death.

20 July 2012. 4 chainsaw blade sharpenings and one nearly burned out angle grinder motor, several bashed-to-a-pulp chisel handles and painful slow-to-heal muscle strains later, the privet, which had incorporated the steel mesh fence into its anatomy, is no more.
