USDA Zone: 5b (-15 to -10 F / -26.1 - 23.4 C)
North Garden
About 275 sq. feet of planting room and will receive sunlight from sunup until the very late evening hours. In the fall as the sun gets lower in the sky the house will provide some shade starting around 2:00 PM. Planning for 56 roses - 37 HT, 1 GR, 15 FL and 3 David Austin. The FL includes 5 varieties that will be planted in threes fairly close together to get that one Big Plant Effect - these are Playboy, Lavaglut, Julia Child, Oh My! and Mandarin Ice. The Austin triple will be Jude The Obscure. The HT will be mostly exhibition types with some old favorites mixed in like Rio Samba, Elina, Brigadoon and Mikado. Fragrance was not overlooked as I have included Double Delight, Tiffany, Mister Lincoln, Pope John Paul II, Neptune and Fragrant Cloud. Will plant the HT on roughly 30" centers with the FL and Austins on 15" to 18" centers. Most looking forward to growing 5 own root plants of Ring of Fire and seeing if I can get them through our Zone 5b winter.

South Garden
About 550 sq. feet and much like the North Garden only bigger and it will receive a little less sunlight overall. The Norway Maples block the sun first thing in the morning for about half the garden, but from about 7:00 am to 2:00 or 3:00 pm it's full sun until the house blocks the sun. The half without the morning sun does not get blocked by the house - so it evens out. There is 1 Austin (Munstead Wood), 3 GR, 25 Floribundas and 73 Hybrid Teas in this garden. Floribunda triples here are Sexy Rexy, Canyon Road, Plum Perfect, Trumpeter, Sunsprite, Obsession, Easy Spirit and Marmalade Skies. The HTs span the circuit of new, old, fragrant and colorful. I did not realize until now but I have a number of male and female names represented. For the fairer sex I have Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Dolly Parton, Louise Estes, Kristen Singer, Clair Elyse and Hannah Gordon. Males include Mister Lincoln, St. Patrick, Papa Meilland, Peter Mayles, Alec's Red, Robert Bruce, the McCartney Rose plus Baronne Edmond de Rothschild. As well as personal favorites from 25 years ago – Brigadoon, Keepsake and Marijke Koopman. Also have 4 more plants of own root Ring of Fire to grow and get through the winter.
