[From the description of a picture which was given as a bonus to those purchasing the magazine]...the true "Fortune's double yellow", an introduction of the famous traveller Fotune, who discovered her in the garden of a rich Mandarin in Ningpo, where she fully covered an old wall and decorated it with her blooms. In China she is called Wang-Jang-We, and during her introduction in England she was named Fortune's double yellow by the famous Lindley in honour of her discoverer and introducer. She was introduced in 1853 to Germany, but did not come to be generally acclaimed, but not due to lesser value, but as a totally false variety was said to be her...she stands there free [in the garden of nurseryman Heinrich Nestel] at the corner of the house, without any winter protection, climbing...high..and covers herself from bottom to top with blooms, which show the most beautiful and varying shades from the lightest yellow to most fiery carmine.

Neue Rosen, Tour de Malakoff und La Noblesse. (Nebst Abbildung.)

New Roses, Tour de Malakoff and La Noblesse (as well as illustration.)
Lovers of the Rose, which has long been recognized as the Queen of Flowers, will receive with our today's copper plate an illustration of a novelty, the rose Tour de Malakoff, which is due to go on sale this autumn. It was raised by an amateur (Mr. Pastoret), from seeds obtained by artificial insemination of the rose General Duminill with General Jacqueminot. Messrs. Soupert and Notting, commercial nurserymen in Luxemburg, have acquired the rights to issue this novelty and will send it out on subscription from October onwards. With this variety, the named gentlemen also acquired a second, the rose La Noblesse, which descends from the rose Louise Peronny. They are thus both descendants of the popular division Hybrid Perpetuals, which, because of their abundance of blooms and their hardiness against harshest winters, are popular everywhere and therefore rightfully recommended.
The subscription price of the rose Tour de Malakoff is   15 Frcs.
   "          "                "       "      rose La Noblesse is    10 Frcs.
Both together 20 Frcs.
Messrs. Soupert and Notting have authorized Mr. Gottlob Pfitzer, nurseryman in Stuttgart, to also accept subscriptions for the two roses on their behalf, and have enabled him to make the delivery from Stuttgart at the abovementioned prices.
All examples will be oculated, which is to be preferred to grafting with its many disadvantages.
