Lee,

The best time of year to move a rose bush is winter or early spring, while the plant is dormant. A move at that time of the year allows the roots to get established again before the plant begins growth. Transplanting can be done at other times, with care, but the thing to remember is that your best chance of success will come when the bush is not actively growing.

Re. the hips--Have you ever thought about growing the seeds yourself, just to see what comes from them? If you'd like further details about how to do it, I'll be happy to point you to some URLs where you can find information. The seeds might have developed from self-pollination, or from pollination by a bee or other insect carrying pollen from the flower of a nearby rose, but you can be almost sure that the seedlings will not be exactly like the plant on which the hips grew. If you want to trade or share the hips you don't need for seeds, I'd recommend that you post a message on the forum at http://www.rosehybridizers.org and/or on the GardenWeb Rose Propagation & Exchange forum at http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/rosespro/ . The GardenWeb forum has a linked Rose Propagation & Exchange forum (just click on [Switch to: Exchanges] at the right of On-Topic Discussions right before the messages are listed).

If you have other questions, just ask and I will try to help.
