Jenő Halász was primarily a commercial rose grower and nursery owner. He started (by his own description) to deal with rose growing in the 1910s, and continued this activity until his death in the 1970es.
In his catalogue he offered hundreds of the most popular and sought after rose varieties of his time in the 50-60-70es. He always looked for the newest cultivars on the biggest European rose shows, which was not a small feat considering the difficulties of any trade with the "West" in the Communist Hungary.
Jenő Halász was well known by his devotedness for the roses among his customers. Shortly after his death his whole inventory of many hundred propagated cultivars disappeared from the Hungarian rose market, leaving a not-healing wound on the rose collecting hobby of this country.
