[From Illustrirter Rosengarten, 1875, p. 3:] ...Rose plantation of Mr. Franz deegen jun. in Köstritz...To the right and left of the highway which leads from Köstritz to Crossen, one sees directly at the exit from Köstritz a rose plantation in magnificent proportions, which covers an area of 10 Morgen [approx. 25'000 m2]. In many rows, each planted with 2000 roses of the same sort.... [From Der Rose Zucht und Pflege by Olbrich, 1903, p. 252:] Born 1840 in Köstritz; rose breeder at the same place. [From Gartenflora 1898, p. 56:] The nurseryman Max Deegen of Köstritz died December 22nd, 1897 in his 56th year. He had transferred his business already a year ago to his son Adolf, who carries on under the old name Max Deegen (Christian Deegen successors, established 1826). It is well known that the specialties are Georgines, but also Roses.
