Married Johanna Huberdina Heesen (October 2, 1858 - April 4, 1929).
established in 1875 the nursery H. A. Verschuren & Zonen.

[From A Rose Odyssey, by Jean Nicolas, 1937, p. 140:] A number of years ago H. A. Verschuren was a schoolteacher in the small town of Haps. He began to grow roses in his spare time. Eventually he turned professional, giving up teaching, and grew to be a very large operator. He took up hybridizing late in life and achieved a great success with Etoile de Hollande and Hortulanus Budde in 1919. Souvenir de H. A. Verschuren represents the culmination of his work. He died in 1921 and his sons named the rose in his memory.

[From The Complete Book of Roses by Gerd Krüssmann, 1981, p. 162:] Verschuren, Henricus Antonie, 1844-1918. (1) founded the firm in Haps, Netherlands.

His Christian name may be Hendrikus or Henricus.

"Hens Sr.'s" roses were from 1899 to 1918
