Earnshaw, Rev. J. Westby, was born in Ravenfield, Yorkshire, England, January 9, 1846. The Rev. Mr. Earnshaw came to America in 1870 and graduated from Union Theological Seminary of New York City in 1876. He held various pastorates until forced to retire from the active ministry because of ill health. Since then he has resided in Lowville, New York, where he has had peonies in his garden since 1909. Mr. Earnshaw has never entered the commercial field but some of his seedlings have been placed on the market by other growers.
