Colonel Frederick. C. Stern, Vice-President of the Linnaean Society, Chairman of the Lily Committee of London

According to The Ultimate Rose Book, by Stirling Macoboy, pp. 215-6:] Stern was the prime author of the Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants. He also made one of England's great gardens, Highdown in Essex.

Iain Dawson of the Australian National Botanic Gardens provided the following information: Some comments about Sir Frederick Stern are wrong. You have quoted Stirling Macoboy in The Ultimate Rose Book as saying Sir Frederick was responsible for the Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants . That was Prof. William Stearn. Also his great garden was Highdown in West Sussex, not Essex.

From Modern Roses 10, p. 734:] F.C. Stern, Sussex, England.
