1983 New Zealand Rose Annualp48. D. C. Sheppard. Round the Nurseries. Frank Mason & Son Ltd., Sandon Road, Feilding.
In 1912 Mr. Frank Mason finally sucumbed to the insistent tugging of the rose thorns in his garden on his farm near Bunnythorpe and put down a deposit of twenty five pounds on a property in Feilding where he planned to start a nursery......until his death in 1956.
At the end of the second World War, his son Alan, after serving in the Fleet Air Arm, returned to N.Z. with an English (Wren) bride....the latent love of roses grew in him, and he's still there, growing beautiful roses with his wife attending to the office.
2000 New Zealand Rose Annualp35. Frank Mason & Son Ltd. 87 Years of Continuous Rose Growing.
....Frank had five sons and one daughter and all inherited his love of plants.....When Alan and Mary were approaching their 70s, they appointed a young manager and gave him the opportunity to buy the shares and eventually run the business. Unfortunately, this was not successful, and we were very sad indeed when 1999 saw the demise of the oldest continuous rose growing business in New Zealand.
