It was printed in the July 17 2011 issue of "Your Weekend" supplement to "The Press" newspaper, that Nola Simpson died the previous month in Palmerton North at the age of 81.

Stewart Memorial award in 1994, Queen's Service Medal, and the New Zealand Rose Society awards Life Membership, Frank Penn Memorial Award and the coveted New Zealand Rose Award plus a Lifetime Achievement Award from the RNRS amongst others.
