Debut ™ rose photo
Rose photo courtesy of NewsView
Debut is a blooming king in my garden. Unfortunately, this is one of the few pictures I took of it before it died last spring after pruning. The pruning was not at all severe and there were no frosts and no overt signs of disease or distress. It simply never generated any new canes at the bud union and three years post purchase, died. I would recommend it for its beautiful, near-constant blooming and its fantastic insect and disease resistance, but I'm not sure longevity, at least as a tree form, is a strong suit.

I have intentionally overexposed this photo and I tried to correct for the blue tones from the fading light under which the photo was taken. I would say to ignore the color of the rose since it isn't saturated properly like the first photo, but looking at the leaves and the bud, perhaps the detail is clearer.

By my count, I see roughly 18 petals visible in the photo. I feel that the rosebud, to the left, may also yield a clue. The rather elongated and narrow look of the bud coupled with the tightly defined magenta stripe is not consistent with any other yellow bicolor rose I own.

This bloom is unusually vivid in color. In my garden, Elle typically produces white and pastel pink blooms.

My Elle blooms are usually pink and white with very little yellow. Then I spotted this orange and yellow blend. Might it be a sport?
