My roses, inclluding the Knock Out rose seem to loose their leaves in the summmer and begin to get them again in the fall. What causes this?

I do not know when and how to prune roses and when to fertilize them I would appreciate any information on these two subjects.

Thank you.

Spider mites could be the problem. A good spray of water in the morning will knock them off. Make sure you spray under the laeves real well.
