I moved the plant to a new spot where it can sprawl a little more. It's not the best spot still, but a little better. I plan to move it out in front and make it into a tree, but the city of San Jose has not responded to my request for the planting. Doesn't matter... worse come to worse, I can always hack it down to size... The roots don't go deep at all. They sprawl literally and inch or two under the soil. Sideways.

It's finally bloomed for the first time... it is a once bloomer, and it's taken maybe-- 4 years to bloom because my family CONTINUOUSLY hack down at the plant, giving it NO OPPORTUNITY to bloom. I am glad to see the flower for the very first time. And more pleased that it's not the ugly shade of sickly pink that's common to Basye's Legacy seedlings. In fact, it's very lovely. The plant, for the most part, is thornless but it will produce thorns at the base of new growth after a period of cold weather. The flowers are miniature, and look like the miniatures from the 40s to 60s.
