I live in Los Angeles and planted a Rose de Rescht in a pot on my south-facing balcony, which gets about 5 hours of sun per day. I planted it in February, with garden soil and a little bone meal.
Shazam! It's been going like crazy and is covered in exquisite deep fuschia blooms, some almost 3" across. There are no signs of pests or diseases. I get tons of compliments.
My only disappointment is that the blooms do not last long in a vase, but I am comensated by a bush covered in flowers.

Hi there!
I noticed a comment you made on the helpmefind.com forum about Rose de Recht. I'm thinking of purchasing her and was wondering if you could tell me how the blooms last on the bush in LA (I'm in Venice) - I realize it's been a long time since you posted the comment - back in '04.
People have mentioned the rose only lasts about a day on the bush and then fades.
If you don't mind sharing, what other roses do you like that you absolutely love? I find that LA is kind of a unique area to grow these roses, bc the size estimates are completely off! Mine go gangbusters. The ones I love the most are:
Cl. Angel Face - people told me this rose wouldn't do well here but it's about 15' tall now in one year and has the most amazing fragrant smell and puts out roses constantly. I expect this year to be even better.
Red Eden - fast grower and blooming even now in the winter
La Reine - just a great bush and I don't have that many. I just had to purchase her.
Thanks!
