Jawani rose photo
Rose photo courtesy of Inde
The flower, dead-headed just before the petals fall off. Exposure to sun light created red spots on the petals, the colour fades to a pale salmon. The name 'Jawani' translates to youth in Hindi and Urdu.

This is a common rose in North India. It is popularly cultivated as a cut flower for use as ritual offering and for garlands due to it's colour and fragrance. It is known as 'Desi Gulab' in North India, which translates to country rose. 'Desi Gulab' is a term which is applied to roses which are usually grown as own roots and have been integrated into culture of the land since so long that people assume they are native varieties and their true IDs are forgotten. This is a very fragrant, hardy and vigorous rose in our climate where winter temperatures are as low as 2°C and summer temperatures reach 45°C. The rose performs best between ranges of 12°C and 30°C. It is a frequent bloomer, and the flowers have a low shelf life. In our climate this a disease free rose, and flowers can be 3" Across. This specimen is cultivated in my garden in Gurgaon in the Delhi NCR region of the Northern Plains of India, which is a low humidity region for most parts of the year. This rose doesn't particularly like humidity. Given a dry cool and sunny climate it thrives.

'Somasila' is a stunning rose with pink edged petals with a unique texture. The pink can sometimes turn darker towards a red. It has a stunning candy or bubble gum like fragrance for me. This is a vigorous rose in my garden but it's fragrance can waft through the air. It's a brilliant rose to grow for it's unique flowers which can be 4" across. The flowers in my experience have been borne as solitary blooms. I shall plant it in the ground and share better reviews later. It is usually disease free. The specimen is growing in Gurgaon in Delhi NCR ( India) .

This a really large flowered variety with very densely petalled flowers. It is not fragrant. The flowers are an orange ranging between a spectrum of Salmon and Vermillion. Very brightly coloured. The plant is generally healthy, and disease free. This flower is from my garden in Gurgaon in Delhi NCR ( India). Sadly this rose isn't very popular in cultivation and doesn't appear on nursery lists despite its virtues.
