The depth and richness of it's damask fragrance is unmatched. Easily better than any of the other repeat flowering old roses I grow. Here in England it doesn't throw out octopus canes and is easily manageable as a tidy shrub.

My favourite rose for colour, form and fragrance. I grow it in a pot and am considering winding it around supports like an obelisk.

How has growing it in a pot gone? Im considering getting it for my patio but I am unsure how it would perform. Thanks

It grows well in a large pot! I've stuck 2 metal pins in the pot and wind some canes around where its possible and I get blooms all along the length. It just has to stay well watered to thrive.

One of the best whites in my opinion, so i'm shocked and disappointed at how underrated it is. Someone seriously needs to start marketing it more aggressively!

Here it forms a compact but majestic shrub that blooms upwards and outwards very freely throughout the summer in England. The rosette blooms are a striking, glistening white, often blushed with the lightest cream/peach and with a button eye. The contrast with the deep green foliage is beautiful. I plant this next to Olivia Rose Austin which in many ways is it's light pink twin. Disease free for me.

Interesting "herby" fragrance. Not really sure i'd want to smell it more than once though.

Absolutely beautiful! But in it's first year defoliated completely from blackspot. Fragrance wasn't really there either. I think this is one of those Austin's that will take it's time to show off it's best performance.

Update: It smells exactly like Ribena to my nose!

What about G.O. after two years? I've it from less than 2 month (it was an already nicely developed plant in a decent sized container), and I believe it's one of the most powerfully and deliciously fragrant rose out there, a very strong damask/bourbon quintessential mixed with a nice dose of ripe raspberry sweet goodness. Not less powerful than Mme Isaac Pereire, Fragrant Cloud or Comte de Chambord. It can be really overpowering in freshly opened blooms.

I've moved it after it's first year and 2 canes died so it's not quite at it's best for me to make a fair judgement. For now, it smells exactly like blackcurrants to me!
