According to a sign at the San Jose Municipal rose garden, this rose was hybridized by Bédard.

Nice to have a red climber that does well in SF.

I'm in the Oakland hills where we get quite a bit of fog at night that settles here. I've got a spot that gets about 6 hrs sun in the AM, and shade in the PM. Based on your experience, do you think Florentina would do well? Thanks so much.

Hi! Yes it should do just fine. No more blackspot than any other healthy roses in our climate.

Thank you for your reply! One more question: how’s repeat blooming for you? The description here says occasional repeat later in the summer but bloom frequency is rated ‘excellent’ by reviewers… Thanks again!

It’s budding now, then more blooms in July and September usually

Re: parentage, according the Jackson & Perkins catalog/web site it's a cross of Melodie Parfume'e and New Zealand.

Have you had a chance to smell it? -It's parent "Melodee Perfume" is one of my favorite rose scents, but is said to be "stingy" in blooms after initial spring flush. J&P claims it has a great scent, but doesn't go into much detail. --I'm weighing it against "Sweet Intoxication" (also with Melodee P. parentage). Given Intoxication's 40 member "excellent" rating, it might be the better choice!

I have grown this for several years and the scent is very strong, on par with other heavily scented lavender roses

How has this rose performed for you with respect to disease resistance, bloom quantity, and bloom frequency? Thanks!

RVR lists this rose as being very shade tolerant. Does anybody have experience with this? Thanks.
