Hello, I am an absolute beginner who would love to plant an old fashioned rose. The problem is that my garden is shady due to surrounding trees. The pictures in this desert garden are absolutely beautifull. Could you possibly help find a rose that can stand the shade and is preferably a climber? I was told it was impossible... (I live in belgium)

Hi Saskia, thanks for your interest in my garden. You might try inquiring locally about climbers for shade in your area. I would think some of the ramblers might be a good choice? One variety that comes to mind, though I don't know how readily available it is for you there is 'Darlow's Enigma'.

You might also try Rosa moschata? Several of the species roses are somewhat shade tolerant and shoulddo wellin your area. Happy Roses, Robert
