I have purchased Golden Chersonese at least five different times and none are the real thing. Do you have a sucker you would be willing to share? Do you know where I might find one? You can check my rose list, perhaps I have something that you want.

Named for Don Jose Arrillaga, twice Spanish governor of California. Buried at the Mission of Soledad. The large freeway sign in Santa Barbara has the name misspelled - Arrellaga!

I've always had a "thing" for this rose -- at its best it's a stunner. It's nice to know how it got its name. What a cruel irony that the freeway sign is misspelled, especially since there seems to be some confusion about the spelling amongst the great rose collections.

See the HMF Ezine article "Schoener's ‘ARRILLAGA’" by William Grant (DEC 2005) about this rose.

The colour of Hanne is not orange red. Therefore I believe the picture does not show the Hanne rose.

I am willing to bet the film I used was Kodachrome, where the red looks more like orange. I agree with you. Also in bright sun the red with this film will look orange. I took the picture twenty years ago so I have no record of where I saw the rose.

Bill,
If you feel this photo is not representative of this rose should we delete it for you ? Thanks for taking the time to look into this.
