Michel Kriloff (November 6, 1916 Pskov / Russia - January 2010) arrived in France at age 16, worked first in nurseries at Lyon, then from 1934 for Meilland. Sent to German prisoner camps during WW II, he was rescued 1942 by the director of Sangerhausen. Kriloff returned to Cap d'Antibes after the war and received French nationality on July 24, 1947.

[From World Rose News, May 1998, p. 19:] Shortly after his birth on 26th November, 1916, in Pskov, the Ukrainian [Incorrect: Russian] holy city, the family fled before the invading Bolsheviks and settled in Estonia. At age 14, he left the Soviet Union [Estonia was not part of the Soviet Union in 1930], never to return, to study at the Agricultural School in Lyons. ...Kriloff left work with the Meilland family to take up grafting for the nurseries around Cap d'Antibes...In 1948 Michel Kriloff obtained French citizenship....
