Leander rose photo
Rose photo courtesy of AnnK NCalif
Leander's blooms are a soft blend of peach and pink, produced in clusters of tight buds that slowly open one after another. Blooming is staggered to such a degree that one cluster can last three to four weeks. The photos here are from week two. I don't have any other rose that blooms quite like this. In its first flush, Leander is about three to four feet tall (over 1 meter) but it must be staked before the second flush when canes can reach 7-8ft tall (2.5 meters). Leander is always moderately fragrant but this past spring it had the best scent of any rose in my garden. I kept visiting it over and over just to keep inhaling the fragrance!

Amazing Grace ™ rose photo
Rose photo courtesy of AnnK NCalif
Amazing Grace in its third year produces fragrant, long lasting blooms that are about 5 inches (12.5 cm), some of the largest in my garden. It's a dependable bloomer that produces one bloom per stem, making it great as a cut flower and possibly for exhibition purposes. There are several roses with a contrasting pink edging but perhaps because of its size and the way it holds a strong shape, Amazing Grace has a unique "presence" that I especially enjoy.
