Final Analysis 1992-93. Floribundas.
Beachcomber (MAClapaz); McGredy 1986; 'Little Darling' Seedling x 'Colourbreak'; russet; 5 reports on 5 bushes; 5 years; 1 metre; 7.0 rating. Won a Gold Star in the trial grounds in 1985 but appears to have faded away, I have never seen it offered for sale and the only reports are from the Auckland area. We will wrap it up this year and remove from the system. It is or was a very novel rose coloured a reddish brown with small wavy petalled blooms which are borne in big clusters and have gold stamens. The bush is low growing, healthy and there is a good repeat of bloom. As I recall it dropped its old flowers and the bushes always looked fresh and clean. The one Franklin grower now says it is one that everyone stops and looks at. Pity it has disappeared.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses for 1989-90 Season. Floribundas.
Beachcomber McGredy 1987 ('Little Darling' Seedling x 'Colourbreak'); reddy brown; 4 reports; 4 bushes; 1-2 years; 90cm; 7.0 rating. Another new release, reported from only the North Island. Late to bloom, the novel coloured small wavy petalled blooms come in big clusters. Aged blooms have rather an ugly fade. Petal texture is good. The bush is comparatively small, but grows well and gives good repeat throughout the season. Health is good. Worthwhile if you like these "brown colourings".

p67. John Martin. The New Roses for 1988.
Beachcomber Gold Star Winner from 1985, is a Sam McGredy Floribunda at last making its appearance in commerce. The colour is in the currently fashionable chocolate brown shade and the semi-double blooms are in large well formed trusses on a quick repeating bush of medium height.

p99. Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses for 1987-88 Season
Beachcomber MAClapaz; McGredy 1987; reddish brown; 2 reports; 2 bushes; 1 year; 75cm. 7.0 rating. Both reporters are from the Auckland/Franklin area and both are concerned that their bushes are not establishing well. The small wavy petals form attractive blooms. The bush is free blooming, has fast repeat and is healthy. More reports next year, please!

Gold Star of the South Pacific and Certificate of Merit for the best floribunda on trial.
Trial Garden No. 83/1269. Maclapaz 80341. NZ Fl. Sam McGredy, New Zealand.

p59. Nola Simpson. The Trial grounds 1984-85.
Trial 15 was not an exceptional trial..... The top rose in this trial and a Gold Star winner was Maclapaz a brown floribunda entered by Sam McGredy, New Zealand. This rose performed very well over both years in trial, it is in the now popular rusty brown shades, very healthy with a neat compact habit of growth and extremely floriferous. Another good feature was that the old flowers dropped cleanly, so it always looked fresh and bright, good heads.
