Large loose blooms of outstanding color especially in cool weather. Seems well suited to our coastal climate. Heavy, almost continuous bloom production. Upright disease resistant plant with very attractive foliage. Stems are slender but hold blooms well. Does well on own roots but benefits from budding. Good exhibition rose in categories where classic HT form is not required. One expects this rose to be fragrant but fragrance is minimal.I have great affection for this rose.(Zone 9B).

Jackson & Perkins has renamed this rose "Peppermint Splash" and has released it for its 2010 retail season under that name.

I got this rose as part of the J&P Hybrid Tea Test Rose Panel in 2008. It was a pretty fair rose that first year and grew and bloomed well. The bush stayed healthy and overwintered in my garage in it's container and came through fine enough.
I transplanted it into the garden Spring 2009 and it has responded quite nicely. The bush has really become more vigorous and growing taller and with more foliage. This year I notice that it will blackspot, so I do spray it to keep it clean. I didn't see any PM on it last year when I intentionally didn't spray it so I could test it's disease resistance.
It is also blooming much more this year since moving it into the garden. The flowers are nicely enough colored with it's red/white stripes but it really needs more petals to make a better presentation. They don't last as long as I would like either, especially when they are cut for putting in a vase. J&P seem to be touting its honeysuckle fragrance, but I have yet to detect any real scent on the flowers I am getting.
It's really only a fair rose at best. I think that overall the bush is fine, but the flowers will have to improve to be more highly recommended by me.
It may get better as it matures over the next couple of years.
