This rose represents the combination of Mr. Moore's two most important and prolific breeding roses. I asked Mr. Moore why he never used it for breeding. He responded, "I never thought about it." In my opinion, it holds good promise for the creation of thornless roses; roses which are easy to propagate; and roses with shade tolerance. It's shown a high level of shade tolerance in my Southern California desert garden. Self seedlings from Softee have generally been very lightly prickled to completely prickle free, and have shown flower forms from nearly single to extremely double with OGR flower shapes. (See my seedling, http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/pl.php?n=46074)
Very little has been done to explore this potentially important breeding rose. Those interested in pushing the envelope further should consider obtaining Softee and using it with roses other than miniatures, such as OGR and species/species hybrids.
