Dark Pink Japanese Peonies
Ama-no-sode (Japan) Extremely large, having two rows of long, wide-spread petals of rose-pink forming a saucer-like arrangement about an immense center of long yellow staminodes with flattened, crinkled tops stained with rose. Carpels green with yellowish tips. Highly admired by peony fanciers. $2.00

Japanese Peonies (albiflora)
Ama-no-sode (Japan)* 9.2 (5, 21, 30, 43, 45)
Very large, Tyrian pink, midseason. Staminodes oblanceolate, pale yellow with pink tinge and with yellow on edges. Carpels green, sparsely hairy, tips cream-colored; disk broad, cream-colored. Plant large, spreading. Two other forms similar in coloration were also received under this name. The carpels in one variety were smooth with pink-tinged tips and in the other variety, smooth with red tips.

Rare Single Japanese Peonies
The so-called Japanese Peonies are those which have one or two rows of petals and centers of stamens much thickened. These are almost devoid of pollen and oftentimes make a thick cushion of golden yellow. The effect is very beautiful and distinct and they continue to bloom throughout the Peony season. Although strong growers they propagate slowly and the stocks are usually limited.
Ama-no-sode 9.2, exceptionally large flower, petals bright rose-pink with lighter tints and a mass of stamens. Very scarce. $10.00

The Japanese peonies are so called because the Japanese have given them more attention than any other people. They are the third stage of doubling. The yellow stamens have become thickened and are almost petals. They may be told from the singles by the fact that they never bear pollen, while the singles always do. They do make seed very freely.
Ama-no sode, Tokio and Tomate-baki [are] the best pinks.
